Statue of Zeus at Olympus

This was a giant seated figure of Zeus constructed around 435 BC in the sanctuary of Olympia, Greece. The Greek sculptor Phidias created this wonder of art. With ivory plates and gold panels as framework, this was the cedar wood throne. ornamented with ebony, ivory, gold, and precious stones. This was considered a Wonder of the Ancient World until its destruction during 5th century AD. There is no copy of the statue ever being found. Only details from ancient Greek descriptions and representations of coins. This figure stood at 13 meters which is 43 feet tall.
