Lighthouse of Alexanderia

The lighthouse of Alexandria was a tower built by Ptolemaic kingdom. This is also known as the Pharos of Alexandria. The light house was first started in 280 BC and finished in 247 BC. This was the third longest surviving wonder of the ancient world. This was used as a prototype to future light towers. This tower has been repaired a number of times. This marvel has been damaged badly during the years of 956-1323 by earthquakes. By this time it became an abandoned ruin. This was later used to construct the Citadel of Qaitbay in 1480.  The main cause of it's abandonment was the Crete earthquake.
